As a student at Word of Life Bible Institute, you will be actively serving the Lord in various ministries throughout the school year. Each student will participate in most, if not all of these opportunities. Below are the available ministry opportunities and a description for each.
Open Air Evangelism (OAE) is the backbone for all other ministries and ministerial practical applications throughout the year. Students will have many opportunities to go out and share their faith after their class on Personal Evangelism, which trains and equips students with tools for sharing the Gospel.
Select students are exposed to the ministry of Word of Life at the University of the Philippines in Los Baños (UPLB). Different teams take turns each week ministering with our Word of Life Campus Ministry (WOLCM) staff. During afternoons, they do evangelism around campus, inviting university students to attend that evening’s event at the WOLCM Student Center located on the UPLB campus. Students are each given an assignment for the evening event: leading songs, icebreakers, sharing their testimonies, etc.
Basketball is important to us too! The male students of WOLBI come together to form the Agila Team. They compete both formally and informally with teams from the local barangays during weekend ministry, getting to demonstrate Christlikeness during the game. Testimonies and the gospel are shared with their opponents and the gathered crowd at halftime.
Students participate with their voices to praise the Lord and encourage others through music ministry. While every student participates in general music ministry, there may also be solo and duet opportunities and other small groups formed when needed for rendering special numbers on weekend ministry, at camps and other events throughout the year.
Praise teams are chosen to lead worship during camps both throughout the year and during summer camp based on their vocal and instrument abilities, as well as their heart for worship.
Drama ministry creatively portrays the gospel message through evangelistic skits. Select students are involved in Drama Ministry. Evangelistic dramas are performed during different events on weekend ministry, during camping ministry, and at other events.
Weekend Ministry looks like students taking the Gospel to communities. This occurs almost every weekend and is usually coordinated with local churches. Ministry approaches during Weekend Ministry include: puppet shows, music, sports, house-to-house, drama, sketch board, rope trick, testimonies, and room-to-room. Here are descriptions of three different approaches to OAE during Weekend Ministry:
Students disperse to houses throughout an entire community to share the Gospel.
The Gospel is presented in a very creative way: the preacher will draw a sketch while giving a Gospel presentation to the gathering crowd. Male students usually do the main sketch board while female students do the introductory sketch.
Each student has the privilege to share the Gospel through their own personal testimony of life change, how they came to know the Lord as their personal Savior. At the end of the testimony, the student invites the crowd to respond to the Gospel.
Puppet Ministry is a highly effective tool for Gospel presentation. After the students have their training, students practice songs and evangelistic puppet skits, which are great incentives during weekend ministry for gathering crowds, at which the gospel will then be presented.
Students are assigned as counselors in the cabins both throughout the year and for six weeks during the Summer Camping Ministry, where they lead and counsel campers. At camp, evangelism, leadership and discipleship skills are further developed.
The Fourth Year Internship is the ministry pinnacle of the Bible Institute journey. Here our SMS students apply their previous three years of coursework and ministry training in service for eight months at a local church or parachurch ministry.
This week of exciting evangelistic opportunity is the climax of ministerial practical application. All students join with Bible Institute staff and select non-WOLBI staff to serve the Lord with the Gospel for an entire week. Each year, a different location is targeted for this ministry intensive.
With the Philippine government’s permission, students and WOL staff are able to share the Gospel to classrooms full of students during Eternity Week. Presentations include songs, games, testimonies, and sharing the Gospel.
Some students have the opportunity to minister to children during Eternity Week, both through room-to-room and by leading children’s Sunday Schools at churches. Children’s ministry includes song-leading, games, and Bible lessons.
